Scrappin Kids

It is with the utmost sadness that I hereby announced that Wati has decided to end Scrappin Kids due to her many responsibilities. I know it wasn't easy for her and I'm sure she has given this a lot of thought.

For me, Scrappin Kids was the first ever challenge blog that I found when I first started scrapbooking. Back then, I didn't even know what scrapping challenge was, let alone taking part in it. I loved all the twists and turns in the challenges that SK came out with and the fact that they were always about the kids, was what really got to me as I've always loved scrapping about Nadiah.

From the start, I've taken part in all sorts of activities that SK has come out with: challenges, online challenges, online tutorials, charity events and was also invited as a Guest DT. But the best part was making it as one of the DTs.

I have loved working with Wati and my fellow DTs. It has been a great stint and I only wish we could have a lot more time together.

So here's sharing some of my layouts and altered projects that I've done for SK, either as a DT or a participant....










Wow.. that's quite a lot, huh? Didn't I tell you that I loved SK activities?

Anyway,I wish Wati and the rest of the SK crew all the best and keep on creating!!

For those die hard fans of SK, don't fret... you can always go back to SK old challenges and pick out those that you've never done before and scrap away just for the fun of it!!

7th Birthday (Scrappin Kids September Challenge)

This month at Scrappin Kids the challenge is to make a layout of your kid's birthday party and the layout must include at least 4 photos and one of them must be a black & white one.

Here is my take - a layout of Nadiah's 7th birthday in April this year.

A Weekend Of Challenges

Last weekend there were some online challenges at Scrappin Kids Forum hosted by Michelle, Pia and Issa. I had been off scrapping for some time it seems, that I decided to take up their challenges.

Sorry that I'm only just posting the layouts because it has been such a crazy week with Nadiah running a high fever and answering phone calls non-stop and getting everything ready for my upcoming beading embroidery classes, that I've hardly any time to breath.

Anyway, here are the layouts that I did for the challenges

1) Michelle's challenge
To scraplift any of her previous layouts.I decided the more simple of her layouts and gave it a little flip horizontally and came up with this

That's a picture of Nadiah with her telescope which she made with kitchen towels tube. I mainly used products from Crate Paper Mia collection. It's a lovely shades of purple and pink and just a little bit of blues.


2) Pia's challenge
To make a layout of a photo with anything homemade, be it cooking wise or arts and crafts or anything that is homemade. This is my take:

I caught this photo the very morning and though how appropriate it would be to make a layout about homemade love. Again, I used Crate paper Mia collection for this layout. I just love that line.

3) Issa's challenge
A layout to use only chipboard and patterned paper.

Ok, I cheated with those ribbons and trims. It's was a case of being too lazy to cut out paper strips.. hahaa!!

Well, all in all I had fun making all these layouts even though I wasn't in the running. Winners have not been announced yet as I'm typing this but I'm sure we'll know soon. Do hop over here to see the beautiful entries.

Not So Happy (SK challenge #18)

A brand new month. And a brand new LO.

It's my first DT layout with Scrappin Kids and I love the challenge for this month, because we have to dig out those pictures that may not bring good memories to us but still an important memory nonetheless.

Challenge #18 is to scrap about those moments that may not be a pleasant experience with our children when on vacation. I decided to scrap about Nadiah's first experience at a water theme park, which we thought at first she would enjoy due to her obsession with water. But it was not so.

Here's my take:

The journaling reads:

"When the Carnival Water Park just opened,

Me & Baba thought it would be fun to take you there

since you love everything water!

Boy we were wrong!!!

There were so many people and the music was too loud

that they were too confusing and disorienting for you

You had to cover your ears all the time and cried your eyes out

That sure thought us not to make assumptions about you!!"

Your Creative Side

I just finished another layout today. When everything just clicks in your head and you just know what to do, it can take very little time to do it.

This one is for Scrappin Kids June challenge. It's a sketch challenge this month. The sketch is:



This is my take:









If you notice, all the little art pieces (2 masks, a house, a flower, a ladybug and a butterfly) are Nadiah's work. I photograph them and cut them all out to make embellishment for the page. I thought that way, I get to keep her creations forever even if the real pieces go missing.

The "squares" are all raised because I adhered the photos and patterned paper on chipboard pieces.

The journaling reads:
"I guess you get your creative side from me. You inherited my love for colours, papers, scissors and glue and putting everything together which is the fun part. I am thankful that we have something else in common besides just being mother and daughter."

SK Ultimate Scrapper Season 2 - Final Day

Before I start with the final challenge for SK Ultimate Scrapper 2009, let me just wish everyone a happy National Scrapbooking Day (NSD)!!

I have to say that scrapbooking has literally changed my life. It has given me an outlet for my creativity as well as a solution to preserving my memories in a very creative way. Not to mention the friends that I've made over the years: those that share the same passion.. scrapbooking for the sake of the arts, and not for material gains. If we get recognition along the way... that's a bonus. At least we are able to share our knowledge with the others.

Ok, to pick up where I left off from yesterday, I managed to be exempted from Challenge #4 and go on to Challenge #5. The latter is the be the final challenge where we would be judged not by the speed of our work but by the quality.

The final challenge is:
1. to do a mini album by applying all the other challenges that you had done earlier. ie. challenge #1 - challenge #4
2. The mini album can be of any form
3. It has to have at least 5-6 pages
4. You have to post why you chose the kind of album, and explain to us all on your tricks and techs.
5. Tricks & Techniques applied will be a plus point.
6. This is all up to your creativity and interpretation
7. This is not a speed challenge, you work will be judge by our GUEST JUDGE

Honestly, I actually started out with a whole different album but halfway through I was not satisfied with what it was looking like and just stopped everything. After rummaging in my stash, I found a pack of 7Gypsies 6x6 board book and decided on a whole different look. And those pictures you see are the result of a 2 and half hours of working at a breakneck speed.

And at the end of the day, this is what my scrap table looked like...

But it was so worth it!! The challenges were... for lack of a better word, challenging!! The other ladies were all splendid and I would like to give a shout out to them for their amazing work.

And to Wati and all the RDs and DTs of ScrappinKids ==> you guys rock!!! Thank you so much!!

SK Ultimate Scrapper Season 2 - Day 2

The second day is more relaxing for me. Why? I'll tell you in a minute.

The first challenge of the day started at 10 am. The challenge:


It's always makes you feel good to be STYLISH even on your layout.
Challenge is:
1. To do a STYLISH photo frame around your photo. You have to use bits & pieces of your stash to create it. Anything is possible BUT no rub-ons & stickers.
2. NO multi photo on the layout
3. Do share with us how you come up with the frame

And guess what??

I did finish first!!! So I get to sit out for the 5th challenge. Wohoo!!!

For this LO, I cut out some flowers from a Pink Paislee patterned paper, a chipboard element also from Pink paislee, a strip of lace, a metal clock face, some sequined flowers from Queen&Co and some mosaic tiles.

For the tiles, I just stick a strip of double sided tape and sprinkled the tiles on it. And I'm done!!

Scrappin Kids Ultimate Scrapper Season 2 - Day 1

In celebration of the National Scrapbooking Day, which is on the 3rd May, Scrappin Kids is having the second season of SK Ultimate Scrapper challenge from 1st May to the 3rd over at the forum. Last year I missed it and was so disappointed and this year I made sure that I register for it really early on.

And so today marks the first day of the challenge and the first was posted at 9am this morning by Wati.

Challenge #1
Do a layout of what Scrapbooking REALLY mean to you.
I need to see journalling and you can only use 1 pattern paper and 1 cardstock on the layout
Other embellishment is fine
Pictures are optional
