Beauty

Oops! I totally forgot to put up the challenge for Twisted Sketches #020. Yikes! It's been such a hectic 2 weeks and I hardly had time to breathe. And now the week #020 has passed and the new challenge should be up some time today. But then again, you can always make a layout with this sketch and this twist. Oh! Did I mention that the twist is BLACK, WHITE & GREY? What fun!!!

Anyway, here is my take:

It's all about the beauty of a sun setting over the calm waters of the river.
All black and white and grey with a little dash of red!!

Materials used:
Patterned papers: Creative Imaginations, K&Co. Felt alphas: American Crafts. Transparency: Hambly Screen Prints. Rub Ons: Luxe Designs, Fancy pants Designs. Journaling cards: Jenni Bowlin. Flower: Prima Marketing. Others: Blings and brads.

Thank you everyone at STM and all the DTs. Your challenge and work has been simply inspiring!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------
This week at Scrapping The Music, the song for the challenge is You Are The Best Thing by Ray LaMontagne. I wanted to give this a shot and had just the perfect idea for the layout.

Again, I used my new stash for this layout.. heee! Don't you just love new things??

Here's my layout:

Don't you just love those Prima Say It In Crystals AND Pearls?? I love them!! I really, really love them!. I may get more of them...

Gadget Girl

I was browsing around for a new challenge site to make a layout and came across Dreamgirls Challenge blog. The challenge for this months sounds interesting and decided to give it a try. This is the challenge:

Prompt: Bring out the eyelet love! Use at least 10 eyelets on a layout and get down with your old school self!
Technique: Doodle - Doodle a border or frame or swirls on your page
Product: find a way of sneaking in a Bird or Owl onto your page

I used my new set of Sassafras Lass Sweet marmalade collection for this layout. It's a pretty and colourful line but mainly I used the border strips. I love those...

8 eyelets here as the flower center...

another 2 on the blue flower which I tied a string through. There's the owl... and I doodled about 3/4 around the photo. So that meets all the requirements for the challenge.

I've actually sprayed a pink and a green Maya Road Mist on the paper and if you look closely, you'll see that I painted some white acrylic paint around the photo.

Well actually, I have to admit that I am horrible at doodling. I think I've said that on many occasion before this. I absolutely suck at it! So the white paint is really my idea at covering up the disaster that I made with my first pitiful doodling attempt. The second try was slightly better, I think...

Another reason I love doing this challenge is that I get to use my Crop-a-Dile for a lot more than just punching holes!!

Materials used:
Patterned papers: Sassafras Lass. Stickers: Sassafras Lass. Alpha stickers: Basic Grey. Chipboard scroll: Bo Bunny. Owl transparency: Fancy Pants Design. Brad: Creative Imaginations. Eyelets: Daidy D's, Making Memories. Others: Acrylic paint, Distress ink pads, Maya Road Mists.

Yellow Wellies

It's another twisted week and the twist for this week is RIBBON. Based on the sketch here, make a layout or card incorporating ribbons in it.

Here's my take:

This week is the start of the new term for the DTs. I am lucky enough that I get to stay on as a Twisted Sister for another term. But we will be missing Christiane, Kim and Virginie. I'll miss your creativity at the Twisted scene and wish you all the best.

There are 4 new Sisters joining us and I would like to give a shout out for Reija, Janet and two of my buddies, Jessy and Wati!! Congrats, you guys and I look forward be working with you all!!

SO come and join us at Twisted Sketches and play along with the sketch!!

Fallen Leaves

I was looking through my photo collection and found these photos of Nadiah that was taken some time last year. In them she was pretending that it was autumn and that dried leaves are everywhere and so she raked up some to make a pitiful mound. But what really got to me was her imagination. As you know, over here in Malaysia we don't experience four seasons but Nadiah has managed to come up with her make believe snow and now fallen leaves. I wonder what she would do for Spring and Summer?

Anyway, here is my layout:

Close up of my diecut flowers. The black one is made of cardstock which I diecut, embossed and sprayed some gold Maya Road Mist. The red is grungeboard - diecut, sprayed pink and gold MR Mist, stamped with StazOn and inked on the edges with distress ink. And the flower center is a metal brad by Creative Imaginations.

If you zoom in closely, you'll see that I've lightly painted the corrugated board with some crackle paint and inked the edges with distress ink. Oh have I mentioned how much I love those Prima blings??

I love quotes too!!

Materials used:
Patterned paper: Prima Marketing. Crystal blings: Prima Marketing. Brads: Making Memories, Creative Imaginations. Quotes: K&Co, DCWV. Others: Tim Holtz Distress Ink pads, Tim Holtz Distress Crackle paint, Heidi Swapp paper distresser, StazOn ink pad, Sizzix machine and die, Cuttlebug embossing folders, metal flower charm, a metal photo corner, some lace, Stamp It rubber stamp and a piece of corrugated board.

A Quiet Moment

The second layout I did for today is for another challenge at Let's Get Shabby. This is my first submission although I have been meaning to submit for some time now. In Challenge Four, we are given a sketch. Please go here to see the sketch and the beautiful examples.

Here's my take:

I'm not sure if I get the shabby look right, or if this layout has more of a classic look. But I like it!! And that photo of Nadiah sitting quietly on the swing is just right for the look.

I also added some crackle paint on the white frame to make it somewhat more shabbier. And as always, I love those blings!!

Materials used:
Patterned paper and journal card: 7Gypsies. Alpha stickers: Basic Grey. Chipboard frame: American Crafts. Blings: Prima Marketing. Others: Lace, leather thong, metal flower charm, mulberry paper flowers, glittered wire butterfly, crackle paint.

A Simple Life

I am so glad that I am back living in the scrapping world. For the longest time, I was either too busy or had no creative juice whatsoever to start scrapping just for the fun of it. For the past couple of months I only make time for DT jobs, that my scrapping table was starting to gather dust.

Although all the fasting and festivities had past, I was too lazy to do anything else but read books and watch some movies. This week I finally got my MOJO back and am back at the scrapping table... YIPPEE!!!

Ok, first up is a layout for Scrap-It-Lah October challenge which is the Simple Challenge.

Here is my take:

The photo and the the title mean a lot to me and as you can see the journaling is quite long. Having a 7 year old autistic child can be difficult sometimes but for the most part Nadiah is such a happy child. She doesn't need much of anything to have a happy perfect day. As you can see in the photo, a few colourful balloons just makes her day. Some days it's just blowing bubbles or swinging on the swing so high that she's almost flying and other days it's just sitting around with her picture books.

It is quite simply... a happy life, a blessed life, A SIMPLE LIFE!!

Materials used:
Patterned papers: Crate Paper, Webster's Pages, Sassafras Lass. Journaling card: Crate Paper. Alphabet stickers: American Crafts, Basic Grey. Stickers: 7Gypsies, Creative Imaginations. Others: Acrylic paints and TH Distress inks pads.
