Box of Techniques

Just over a month ago, a group of us decided to alter a box and swap with each other. Each of us had to pick out a name for whom we'll be altering for and I pulled out Sharon's.

After a few days of searching for the right box - and let me tell you that finding a box to alter in Alor Star is not that easy - I finally found one.

It's actually a box for putting in keys but I took all the hooks out and dismantled the box. I peeled off the laminated skin, sand it, paint it with black acrylic paint and varnished the whole box.

After a week of letting the varnish dry completely, I started working on it. By this time my ideas had changed so many times that the end result looks nothing at all like what I originally planned.

So this is what I made for Sharon:

I combined all sorts of art mediums and techniques to create the individual tiles and very happy with how the box turned out.

I'm glad that Sharon loved it and that's the main point.

just a question, those little tiles, are they chipboard or some other kind of material?

Thank you so much, everyone for your lovely compliments. It is such a joy to make something that people seem to love. It gives me such satisfaction.

To answer some questions...

Shyra, I hope to have another class soon. Will keep you posted.

Mazlina, it's nice to have finally met you as I've heard wonderful things about your work.

Karine, I can make something like that but not exactly because I can never produce two identical boxes.

Yeong Shong, the tiles are chipboard either covered with cardstock, foil, painted or dipped into UTEE.

Thanks again for all the love, everyone!!
