Your Creative Side

I just finished another layout today. When everything just clicks in your head and you just know what to do, it can take very little time to do it.

This one is for Scrappin Kids June challenge. It's a sketch challenge this month. The sketch is:

This is my take:

If you notice, all the little art pieces (2 masks, a house, a flower, a ladybug and a butterfly) are Nadiah's work. I photograph them and cut them all out to make embellishment for the page. I thought that way, I get to keep her creations forever even if the real pieces go missing.

The "squares" are all raised because I adhered the photos and patterned paper on chipboard pieces.

The journaling reads:
"I guess you get your creative side from me. You inherited my love for colours, papers, scissors and glue and putting everything together which is the fun part. I am thankful that we have something else in common besides just being mother and daughter."

Materials used:
Patterned papers: Pink Paislee, Bo Bunny. Flower: Prima Marketing. Alphabet stickers: Basic Grey. Rubber stam: Stampers Anonymous, Ink pad: TH Distress Ink. Various ribbons and lace.

Target: 100 LOs
Done: 97 LOs
To do: 3 LOs

A Bubbly Day

I finally finished this layout today. It has taken me a lot longer to do than my usual layouts. That's because I've never done a layout like this before. It's for Scrap The Girls June challenge. We are to create a 'SCENE' layout.

I chose a scene of Nadiah blowing bubbles in the middle of a rolling field with butterflies flying around and snails slowly gliding on the ground.

So here's my take:

Well... it looks like two giant Nadiahs blowing bubbles on a rolling hill. But who cares? It's fun!! :D

I used long bugle beads to make grass

Sewed more beads in a running stitch to make butterfly tracks

I didn't know what to used to make bubbles and found these metals rings and I thought they would do.

It was kinda fun making this layout. I've always loved trying out new styles and techniques and this was one of it.

Materials used:
Patterned papers: Pink Paislee, SEI, Bella Blvd., Autumn Leaves. Chipboard elements: Pink Paislee, Alpha stickers: Jenni Bowlin. Others: metal rings and beads.

Target: 100 LOs
Done: 96 LOs
To do: 4 LOs

Flower For You

I was browsing through my Facebook this morning and saw that Wati found a new sketch challenge site called Twisted Sketches. It's not a usual sketch challenge site because every sketch has a twist to it.

For June, the sketch is

And the twist is that we have to incorporate a ribbon in our layout. Interesting? Definitely!!
The best thing was, when I went over to see Michelle's new blog entry, I realised she and Jessy also did the sketch. Great minds we all have that think alike... LOL!!

Here's my take. Using Basic Grey Porcelain and Bittersweet papers.

I twisted the ribbons around those beaded chains.

Can you see my little birdie in the cage?

Printed the photo in black and white and again in colour. But cut the coloured flower out and used foam tape to adhere on the B&W photo to give the flower more emphasis. Nadiah made that flower in school and presented it to me on Mother's Day. How sweet!!!

Materials used:
Patterned papers: Basic Grey Porcelain and Bittersweet collection. Cardstock: Bazzill Basics. Chipboard elements: Basic Grey. Chipboard alphabets: American Craft. Flower: Prima Marketing. Pearl: Kaisercraf. Eyelets: Making Memories. Clear acrylic stamps: Prima Marketing, Lil' Davies. Ink pad: Tim Holtz Distress ink. Ribbons, beaded chain and leaves from local shop.

Target: 100 LOs
Done: 95 LOs
To do: 5 LOs

Me & You Canvas

I finally managed to do the canvas kit by Sharon Karamsingh that I got from the Showcase. Decided not to use the vintage picture that was in the kit but used a photo of me and Nadiah instead.

I LOVE that 7Gypsies flocked paper that was in the kit. Soooo beautiful!!!

I also used Making Memories metal embellishment which was originally teal in colour. Didn't really go with the whole thing so I applied alcohol ink and used a Q-tip dipped in StazOn cleaner solution and rubbed off the ink on the embossed words.

You can see Sharon K's sample here.

I just finished this layout yesterday, having used Basic Grey new collection Wisteria. I love the soft purplish colour of the collection but had a hard time finding a picture that goes with it. Note to self: take pictures with some purple in it!!

Celebrating Parenthood

For the month of June, Scrap|Inspire|Create is celebrating parenthood. All DTs are to come out with a scrapbook layout, altered work or anything that is handmade to interpret the meaning of parenthood to each of us.

I decided to make a wall deco using a quote as the main focus. This is my take:

I did a masking of Heidi Swapp floral strip. Blended in a few TH Distress ink pads, embossed some letters to spell out the word PARENTS, stamped the quote, added flowers and metal leaves as well as metal fastener as flower centers, embellish with my favourite tiny mirror squares and stamped and embossed "TRUST YOUR CRAZY IDEAS...". I love the stamp!!

So do give this challenge a try. You might win yourself a RAK. Please click here to see the other DTs' takes on this challenge.

Target: 100 LOs
Done: 93 LOs
To do: 7 LOs

Altered Apron

I had been meaning to show you the apron that I alter for the Scrapbook Showcase since I came back but had totally forgot about it. Each of the DTs were given a plain black apron to wear on that day and it was up to us if we want to add anything to the apron. I only had 2 busy days to do something about it so I did what I was good and quick at: beading. Here's my altered apron..

A close up

If you don't believe I did that... here's the proof :D

Me on the morning of the showcase still sewing away. The shot was taken by Intan of intanbaizura.com.

Some of the others also did beautiful work on their aprons. Michelle had a whole canvas on hers. Catherine sewed on an elaborate sequin work and stamped a few swirls on hers, Sharon has some pretty cloth flowers on hers and Nilla had some Prima flowers and a chipboard word on hers. Stunning work all of them!!

Oh and I must not forget, we were all given beautiful name tags specially made by Sharon. Here's mine..

Simply gorgeous!!

Fly A Kite

Sometimes when you've got the mojo and you just have to scrap, it doesn't matter what time it is. That's how I ended up doing this layout in the middle of the night and managed to finished it by 3am.

This is for Scrap-It-Lah's June challenge:
To make a layout based on a sketch and to included a handmade flower using paper and buttons.
I used Bo Bunny Abbey Road collection of beautiful blue, green and black combination.

Picture of hubby and Nadiah silhouetted against the evening sun, flying a kite.

A close up of the flower made of paper and a button. I just punched out the flowers and added a rub on flower on the button, and layered them on a Prima flower.

Punched and cut in half flowers and arranged them to make somewhat like a border.

Materials used:
Bo Bunny Abbey Road patterned papers and rub ons, American Crafts Thickers foam alphas, Prima marketing flower, Daisy D's rub on journaling card, Tim Holtz Distress ink pad (Broken China) and some buttons.

Target: 100 LOs
Done: 92 LOs
